I heard once that there are some places where it is actually dangerous to do something better than the neighbors. They will break your new windows, or your TV or whatever, because your good stuff makes everyone else look bad and causes discontent in the neighborhood.
We just hang a wreath and shine a flood light on it. We have a deal with the neighbors, we do Halloween and they do Christmas. It works out great. (We’re the hit of the neighborhood at Halloween though.)

There is a Christmas tree at the mini-warehouse that I was too lazy to fetch, so all I’ve got is a stocking and red garland. Trees take up space.
