Oh man! Pretty scary angle of that gun, too! Definitely not a viewpoint of a gun I’d like to see, especially with a psychopath on the other side! I don’t know much about guns, but what would happen if she shot Wally point blank like that?
Then again if she didn’t die now, she’d die in another minute or so when the missiles hit the ship.
Hey, Aaron, you got the order wrong again! The Friday cliffhanger is printing on Monday! You were supposed to show the missiles coming in through the windows today! Man, now all the dead bodies lying all around the place won’t make sense tomorrow…
Isn’t she looking through the bruised eye? All Wally needs to do is fling his arm out and dearm her. Yeah. There is something seriously wrong with that bitch/witch, take your choice. Blessed BE.Are you sure it wasn’t a screwdriver?
With Aaron, I can never be sure where things are going. In any other strip, I’d have no doubt that Wally will somehow prevail. And I hope that Aaron isn’t planning on following through with where we sit at the moment. But these four panels really show the differences in the two characters. One has to resign himself to going against his pacifistic nature and kill in order to prevent the death of thousands, whereas the other has no qualms about killing the one person in order to successfully cause the deaths of thousands. Classic good versus evil. But again, with Aaron at the helm, we can never be certain of the outcome. But that’s part of what makes this so great!
The ship’s attention strayed Its notice was delayed Until the other cat (With her psychology so frayed) Stood up and got her rifle If Ship saw, it kept stifled Those last few seconds’ warning Would have made this threat a trifle That barrel’s mighty close And Blackie seems verbose I’d guess that he will grab it Otherwise our Wally’s toast Though neither cat is faster And neither proved the master A short grab, lunging sideways Might sidestep one more disaster =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum Charter member of the Consortium to get Aaron a Tablet
Hmmmmm…. Wonder if she has thought as a security officer… Old gun in an unknown state of repair… Can anyone say missfire… Would save him the dilema if it exploded in her face.
Wow, I totally just now noticed the tear in the shoulder of Flask’s suit. I went back to the last few panels to see if it had always been there and, indeed, it has been. Well, I guess noticing late is better than not noticing ever? XD
Also, along with what Dirty Old Lady said, I noticed that too, but I don’t think she’s really looking through the barrel for realsies and just pointing the gun at him in general. I doubt she needs to use careful aim at point blank.
Awesome perspective in the last panel. Aaron just keeps pushing the envelope.Flask’s eye was blackened, but not swollen shut like Wally’s. But at that range, how can she miss? If she shoots, it’s bound to damage the ship. Maybe it will decide then she’s not fit to be captain. Or maybe Aaron M will finally resurface.
As a gun owner, I have to say that the drawing of the gun in the last panel is scarily realistic! It almost looks a photo of a real gun photoshopped onto the drawing.
Captain Flask has narrowed her world view to one single thought – that it is her last moment on earth. And she has one purpose of existence – to hold the status quo, thereby resulting in the annihiliation of the city of her enemies. She is totally locked into mission focus and is on automatic programming. She has no need to debate. She can’t be talked out of it by logic. The only solution is to connect with her on the emotional level. Hit her hard in the buttons of her past trauma and awaken something deep inside that begs to stay around and be heard. Wally may do that, if he has any clue. Or Petey may come bursting in and do it.
I doubt about even connecting on an emotional level with Flask, for her fanaticism is in total control and has blinded her completely. Wally would have to do a dodge in moments, and place a well-placed swipe to Flask’s carotid artery in her throat, but time isn’t on his side
Hmm…not oterwise….otherwise. Oterwise is a smart little mammal cracking clams on his belly, with a rock, while lying on his back in a kelp bed. . .or is that otterwise?
Let’s see, for tomorrow: panel 1 click, panel 2 boom, panel 3 Flask on the floor with half her face gone panel, 4 “Okay. my new Captain, what are your orders?”
I thought the last panel was superbly drawn, too. The contrast between Flask and the gun almost gives it a 3-D effect.
Petey may be the salvation, but I wouldn’t count Marx out of that picture. We don’t know what he’s looking for in those cards, but he may hold the key if he finds it.
I have to admit that after I’d spent a few days reading all the Endtown archives shortly after discovering it, I thought that having to wait a day for each strip would be torture, but it hasn’t been that way. It’s become a part of my morning routine, like drinking coffee…both can be addictive.
Neither will Wally (hopefully). Hate to give another possible prediction, but the weapon that Flask is pointing at Wally (and us) might be ditto-controlled.
I see a rifle jam and Petey barging in to stop Flask… or Petey barging in just as Flask shoots and shoots Petey instead of Wally. Then she REALLY falls apart and just gives up the ship to Wally… Getting myself psyched already! ;)
Wow! That is drawn fantastic! I’m so impressed! Blackie is one seriously evil, mean hearted witch! Wally is so trusting. It would harm him psychologically to kill her.Maybe he can kick the gun away at the right time. I won’t want Petey to get hurt either, but that would tear her up bad. After reading the 2 magnificent EndTown books I see that she has loved him a long time. He was maybe taken from her when he became a personal transporter. Now I want to know what went on Before the books too!
Another though regarding the gun – the ship is a highly automated salvage ship. It might have disabled the gun when the gun was salvaged. I can easily imagine Flask pulling the trigger, hearing a ‘click’ but no ‘bang’.
but i thought petey was going to have some kind of shock soon(with amnesiac charaters they often get their memory back because of a shock like the death of someone they love)

Well, at least with today’s cliffhanger, we won’t have to wait 72 hours…It’ll just seem like it.

I foresee Petey as the catalyst of change in this situation. As mentioned, the unfinished “The only man I ever…….” will probably come into play here.

NOW Wally can take her out. Up to now, he couldn’t kill her. But she is now threatening his life. Self defense is a legitimate reason to kill.
GET HER, Wally!

Remember what the ship said about captains being essentially useless? Maybe it doesn’t need a captain’s orders to move out of harm’s way.

This ship being as screwy as it is, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t even a real gun.
