Not chased by wolves, though. Those are phantom raccoons! Love the last one… Great art work!

Well, and notice that his demons aren’t anthros; they’re full animal raccoons.

Looks like the LSD is kicking in! Too bad Jim’s on a bummer, he’s gonna need a shot of Thorazine and some TM to get himself re-centered when and if he comes down man.Seriously.. Aaron, nice depiction of Jim’s being sucked into the animal state. That last panel would make a great t-shirt.He’s gone Saint Looney up the cream bun and jam!Since we don’t know how much of Jim’s brain is wired human, it may be possible that there is still a rational part of his mind may have a front row seat to the coming horrorshow. Unable to stop the bit of old Ultraviolence that is impending.

AHH!! Oh man! I was half asleep when I pulled today’s strip up, getting ready for school. I’m awake now. o.O I hope Holly or someone can get through to him, but he never got that close to her or Wally, and I doubt Sarah will put forth much if any effort to save him. This isn’t looking good! Poor Jim!

An Edvard Munch moment! Jim’s descent into bestial madness also reminds of another story where a talking animal resorts back to its bestial self. In C.S. Lewis’ final book in the Narnian chronicles,‘The Last Battle’, there’s this talking tom cat character named Ginger who gets scared by a demon and can no longer talk. This was due to a curse that if a talking animal was no longer good, it’d be turned back to being only an animal.

I know we’ve speculated on whether Flask underwent a schism when she snapped in the pit. If so, I wonder if it was as extreme as what Jim is undergoing. I have a feeling that he is on a one way trip to a world where only primal feelings exist. Have others had something less extreme and managed to come back?

Very good depiction of the descent into madness. I guess, it is like I would guess one path would take. @Veteran: Good job on the filk in the last strip’s comment section.

Jim is paying for his xenophobic sins. I hope he regains his equilibrium – with a better conscience, but he may become just a loose cannon… Oh well, our heroes will need a chaotic diversion to effect their escape from the Lizard’s version of Animal Farm, and Jim is a prime candidate, eh?

Makes one wonder one small thing…..at the very bottom of the images in panel 4…..is there a human screaming at the very bottom as it is consumed? Loosing the last vestiges of humanity.

our patio has been occasionally invaded by actual animal racoons…five of them…they are furry little agents of chaos IMHO.

Aarron showed a remarkable ability to portray a complete mental/emotional breakdown. After I had a traumatic event I drew a picture that my teacher said showed that also. The sun had sharp jagged teeth, the train was heading to a train-bridge out and a rabbit was tied to the tracks with a shark snapping at his tail. That was most of it.

I wonder if there are different levels of schism. Do some people get a milder attack and find it easier to snap back to being mostly rational? Or is there just a uniform progression where the victim goes over the edge hard (like Jim is doing), expend the worst of their animal energy on a rampage and then once their energy is spent, they find a somewhat calmer equilibrium. They never leave schism, but they kind of learn to live there.
