Not the winning strategy. Though in truth a freight train would probably pass harmlessly over the robin (a passenger train doing 80 might be a different story, owing to turbulence).
I saw a turkey crossing the highway yesterday, a young jake, I think, heading for oncoming traffic. Thought it was gonna be one of those really sad & grisly moments, but doggone if he didn’t thankfully take wing at the last minute and cheated fate by nano-seconds.
I get frustrated with birds sometimes, they have the whole sky, why do they have to fly so low as to get hit by vehicles. But I understand that, unfortunately, they don’t understand the dynamics of traffic and speed of vehicles.

Why do they always cut across the front of the moving car, instead of heading off to the side?

Is his wing broken? Why isn’t he flying?

Just stay between those tracks, Robin, and that train will pass right over you harmlessly.

Yesterday a robin landEd right in front of my car I mean right in front, there was no way I could miss it. I feel terrible but they sure are stupid.
