At a deli/bakery the other day I saw what I thought was the toll house cookie ice cream sandwich thing often seen in gas station mini-marts. Except this was not in a freezer, it was just on a shelf. It was two cookies with an inch or more of frosting between them. I’d put my sweet tooth against almost anyone’s, but this was too much
I dunno, the design of that cake makes it look like fondant. Which is edible, but only barely. Even plain cake is better than fondant icing.
On the other hand, a good chocolate frosting, or the coconut-almond stuff they use on German chocolate cakes, those I can eat straight from the can, no cake needed.
I personally couldn’t stand that, I like the cake AND frosting, but all frosting would be too much. I have to chase it with ice cream or milk as it is.

It would be easier to just by ready made frosting and eat it straight out of the container.

Agreed!
I always thought of cake, bread, and pizza crust the same way – handles for the good stuff on top.

Too much frosting on cakes now, especially store bought ones. I liked it when my mom would use strawberry jam in the middle of a layer cake.

I sometimes like my cake with ice cream – hold the cake.

I scrape the icing off and just eat the cake. Also I only eat the Oreo wafers and not the stuffing. I know, I’m weird.

Just thinking of this makes my teeth hurt.

Sounds like a lot of the commenters should get together and share cake/icing. I sometimes do that with cake-lovers at parties.

Frosting is the best part, but you need a little bit of cake to offset the sweet topping.

No. There will always be a need for a little bit of cake to accompany the frosting….
