Where else are you going to find a legacy COBOL programmer? It can be updated and posted on the web. The old programmers like their job security and the thump of card punch machines.

I know lots of drivers at my company of employment that are over 65 and still working. In each big city terminal, there are at least 4 that are will leave unwillingly due to a medical issue, than willingly due to good retirement planning.

What did they raise the retirement age to ? 120 ?

Yeah, they keep doing that. I left anyway.

Morty loves this company with every bone in his body.

Indenured servant? Can’t leave untill a certain age? There certainly is no pension involved unless this guy is working for some government entity and then it is 50-80 percent of salary. Otherwise leaving is when you get laid off or quit when you get nothing, the big fat zero.

COBOL programmer until 2005. Retired, checked back in 2018 some were still running.
