Kids can often grasp so much more than we give them credit for! :o)

How sweet that the youngest and least articulate of the family found the appropriate words. Goodbye Frank. You were a good fish. I’m glad you weren’t a party pooper like Krinklebine.

Lynn has announced that she has plans to maybe, put all the FBORFW character’s biographies into a new book.

Since Lynn’s marriage didn’t work out why didn’t she protray this in her strips? Their kids would deal with real life of parents divorce in the strips.

Because this was never about Lynn’s life. It’s about Ellie & John Patterson, a completely fictional couple with a normal family coping with everyday life.

And not every couple gets divorced.

just because it ends in divorce, rather than death, doesn’t make a marriage a failure. often they have many years of happiness together, and that’s certainly successful. just like a profitable business which has its circumstances change and decides to end

Isn’t there enough divorce in real life? Why would we want to read about it in the comics too???

And, just because a couple are still married, that doesn’t mean it’s still a success, either. I know several couples who act all lovey-dovey out in public, and they really hate each other. I know some others who have lived their married life like brother and sister for years. No contact, but living under the same roof.

How’d we get on this subject, anyways? I thought that we were mourning a dead fish today? ; ) RIP Frank

Although we are mourning the death of a fish today, the subject of divorce in comic strips came up, so I wish to make a comment.

Many years ago, Dick Tracy and Tess Truehart had a turbulent courtship that lasted about 18 years. They finally married and had children; and after 40 years of marriage, Tess filed divorce charges against Dick. I recall thinking at the time that a divorce in a comic strip was just not right. It was not setting a good example for impressionable young people who followed the strip. Dick and Tess did reconcile, however.

As I understand it, Lynne Johnston began and ended FBOFW after a divorce in her private life. She never made reference to either event in the strip which must be the way she wants it – none of our d**d business!
