Blamed by whom, Elly? Most guys wouldn’t care, and if your women friends have an issue with it, that’s their problem (and none of their business, either!)

Blamed for WHAT? By WHOM??? By Connie spying in the windows looking for Phil?

Throw that nasty fogie robe out, Elly. Walk around in negligees instead. it goes both ways. Let the man be comfortable.

I guess the night out arc is over.

wndrwrthg, watch out! I became a total pariah here by saying less than that. : )

Elly just sits there and sighs As John walks away she silently cries None can feel her the anguish of her life Burdened by a man who causes such strife Checked pants he wants to wear This is more than she can bear Friends click their tongues, point their fingers The embarrassment forever lingers His love now a thing of the past Because he won’t do what she asked.

There’s a story told about a woman who bought an apartment in the John Hancock building in Chicago. Now, she considered the Hancock building to be terribly ugly, a blight on the city’s skyline… and so, she chose to live there precisely because it was the one place in town from which you couldn’t see it!

This is probably like John’s reasoning behind wearing these pants–they’re comfortable, and unless he passes a mirror, *he* doesn’t have to look at them!

I buy my own clothes and never thought that anyone would assume my wife buys them. How many women “dress” their husbands? I only know one guy who admits to that, but he is color-blind, so there’s a reason.

dsom8, I do, because if I didn’t buy my husband’s clothes, none would be bought. I mean this literally. He had 2 pairs of pants when we married. He would wear one pair until the smell was ready to knock him out, then wear the other pair.

I would “accidently” spill some bleach on the pants while doing the laundry. So sorry….they now have to be thrown away.

I buy ALL my DH’s clothes for him. I have better taste than he does.

I refuse all responsibility for my husband’s clothes. ;) He gets plenty, and if they don’t match, no worries!

Ack! Bleech! I absolutely hate the pair of ugly plaid pants. I would not wear that kind pair of pants like John wore it. It looks sooooooooooo UGLY! Sorry! That is not my type of clothes to wear. I prefer to wear HIPPIE clothes with alot of words such as Love, Peace and whatevers and paisley, colorful dye clothes whatevers. I love to wear ‘em. Why? Because I was born in 1962 (1960’s!) Raahhh!

    Peace! Wink! ;-)

For a long time and even some these days…people assume that women have better taste in clothing and prefer shopping so therefore she buys his clothes. That means that whatever the husband is wearing is a reflection on her. It sucks but it happens. It’s the same with my in-laws. If they don’t get birthday cards and presents it’s always my fault, even though it’s his relatives and he is just as capable of the job. I told him from the beginning that I wouldn’t be his personal shopper/secretary. If he wants to wear ratty underwear and mismatched socks… that’s fine with me. If people want to judge me for it… that’s stinks but I’m not going to lose sleep over it.

A reflection of attitudes in the 80’s. Women were so concerned that they “look good” that they imagined that absolutely everyone else was staring at them, their spouse, their kids, their car and their home and judging them on how well-put-together they looked. Stupid attitude, but very very common then.

I see that thing is back to wiggling in the back of John’s pants.

If my husband wants to wear something a little on the ugly or ratty side at home behind closed doors or while outside doing dirty yard work, well, then, that’s okay with me. I don’t mind. If he likes them and they’re comfortable, who cares?!?!?!?

Luckily, when it comes to shopping for his own clothes, he’s pretty good about buying nice-looking things (although I help to contribute to his wardrobe when it’s his birthday or Christmas) so he’s rarely ever an embarrassment to me out in public. However, he also knows that he’s not always as color-coordinated as I am so if we’re going somewhere really special or important, he’ll usually ask me if this tie goes with that shirt, etc. Most of the time he’s spot-on with his choices but there have been a few times over the past 22 years where I’ve had to rescue him from a potential “fashion faux pas” and he was thankful for the advice.

@jaeldid66, My daily shoes have holes in the sides, a second pair is for Sunday. I swap Sunday for daily and buy a new pair when the soles develop holes. I have 2 pairs of pants, which I swap at least once a week. I have 4 white shirts and 4 heavy T shirts, which are changed daily. My wife bought me some cargo pants for my 2 pairs of pants (and they are super handy - I use all the pockets), but other than that doesn’t seem to mind. She likes the cargo pants look, and it goes with worn shoes. I like not spending money on clothes.

Unfortunately, she’s right – it’s not that she bought them for him – it’s that she would let him out of the house in them. It’s hard to look the other way sometimes. And yes summerdog – what IS that wiggle he has acquired?
