One “Garfield” strip, Lyman said he grew up with four cats named “Cat.” Jon asks why. “What’s the the point of naming your pet who won’t come when you call it?” (“Good point.”)
A local farmer once told me that pigs were the most intelligent animal on his farm. Mind you, this was in the largest hog-producing county in our state.
Now you’ve done it, Danny.+As for Pedro the Turkey – - – well… he laid down his life for your dinner. He hoped to be buried in a rich gravy, laid out in a delicious stuffing. He gave up his tender breast, his tastiest drumstick. We owe it to Pedro to enjoy every bite of him, white and dark.
The pig, if I am not mistaken,Supplies us sausage, ham and bacon,Let others say his heart is big—I call it stupid of the pig.
Ogden Nash
Ogden Nash may have thought it stupid of the pig, but I am glad there is bacon – especially now that I’m getting a bumper crop of tomatoes for BLT sandwiches.
Cats are not big on consonants, except maybe “M.” Pitches, however, seem to get through. Most of mine woud come for a descending major third. But Moonshadow … I had to sing the whole @#$ line.
Susan Newman: When I was a college freshman, we had a professor, one of the top Chaucer authorities in the world, who only scheduled MWF classes. The rest of the week, he farmed in the next county. One can be both.
I remember the movie Giant. When the kids were told the roasted turkey was Pedro, they all started crying. And what will those pigs names be? Arnold? Wilber? Porky? Just to name a few.

When these strips first ran, I thought Uncle Danny looked like my Dad. Now I’m starting to look like that.

When my daughter was 5 I told her which animals meat came from. She laughed really hard and told me she knew I was teasing her.

Think of Involvement and Commitment as a traditional American Breakfast. The chicken was involved, but the pig is committed.
