She’s not in grade 6, not if she is 10. Unless Canada has a different system? 6th graders are between ages of 11-13 so the median would be 12…late 11 or early 13. We know Mike is 15 and he is 5 years older. If I recall the earlier strips, he is about to begin his freshman year? That’s typically 14-15 year olds. So Canada has a different system? I teach 7-12 so I know the ages of those kids in which grades. I also used to teach K-6. Well, in America, this is.

My 11 year old grandson is in the 6th grade but it’s Middle School, so the grades are 6, 7, and 8 making him the lowest grade in the pecking chain. Of course, this week, it’s all by computer, but he’ll start limited face-to-face classes next week. Heck of a time to go to school.

Enjoy your superiority Elizabeth. Next year you’ll go from a big fish in a small pond (6th grade) to a small fish in a big pond (7th grade). ;D

Seniors…very mature.

Sixth grade was the best for me.

I guess it all depends on the school and the school system, but ours went K-5 elementary and 6-8 middle school. The 5th graders were the older kids, but went back to the bottom beginning in 6th. Either way, that last year of elementary school is probably the best for most kids.

And next year they’re at the bottom of the totem pole. I remembered realizing that when I was in sixth grade going into junior high.

6th grade is when I discovered baseball cards and girls!

Older is relative and not necessarily more mature. …nya, nya, nya.

The only thing certain about my public school days is that they are past. Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!

Yup leaving a impression to younger kids.

And parents wonder where their kids get bad habits from!

In my US 6th grade, the one thing to look forward to was the annual 6th grade fieldtrip trip to the Shrine Circus in Rochester NY. One of my DH’s older brother’s favorite way-back-when stories is, that his class was served dinner. He said it was the BEST beef and gravy and mashed potatoes he ever tasted! He found out later that they were served horse meat, not beef.

This argument has been going on forever becaue Lynn “ages” her characters and from time to time she skips a year or two to fit her stories, and that’s when the argument crops up again… so according to my keeping up with the stories: Elizabeth is 11 and Mike is 16.

We have a what is called “senior public school” next door, and it covers grades 7 and 8. It is a “feeder school” for the four public grade schools in this large neighborhood, which cover grades 1 to 6. Right next door to this school we have a very large rec. center with two ice rinks and an indoor pool…plus tennis courts and an outdoor basketball court, baseball diamond and a soccer field. Then there is a splash pad and large playground for the little ones, and a large outdoor running track. All run by the city. Seeing such luxury all around us, I wondered why people from our neighborhood still send their kids to private schools…and they are stuck on a bus or in their parents’ car for almost two hours every day, when they could be enjoying time outside with their neighborhood friends…

I was only 10 when I started 6th grade. Back then you had to turn 11 by the end of the calendar year to be able to enter 6th grade. My birthday is in December, so I was one of the youngest kids in our class all the way from Kindergarten through Senior year.

So who has a fantasy life now? Mature? Ha ha!

“Playground”? ….. My elementary was K-5, middle school was 6-8. We stopped having any recess in the 5th grade.

I tend to think that elementary should be K-6, middle school 7-9, and high school 10-12.

I turned 5 whilst in Kindergarten, 1968. I’m a November baby, and honestly, my mom and dad should have waited.
