I have some empathy for Elly. There is a big difference between a baby crying and a loud baby crying. My son in his infant stage had a powerful voice. When he started crying, people’s heads would turn. His voice was so loud, it was painful to be close to him. One time he started crying in the car and we discovered his voice could overpower the radio all the way up to the loudest setting (11). Most babies I hear crying sound to me like the tinkling of a gentle bell; but every once in awhile I will hear a baby who is truly loud and I immediately feel sympathy for the parents.
Judging from the strong reaction of the librarians, who should be accustomed to baby crying given their profession, April must be a loud baby.
Yup, that. I said that yesterday. They will tell her to find a babysitter or go back home and be a mom full time. There is a reason why parents don’t bring children to work. Because daycare for two children cost so much money, I stayed home with my kids until the younger started kindergarten – around here, kindergarten is a full school day. My salary would all go to the daycare which I did not care to do so. I tried babysitters…I don’t trust people to babysit on a daily basis knowing the horror stories of private home babysitting services. At the time, my parents were gone and my in-laws both worked. So I stayed home. No regrets.
I am always surprised at Church when the little ones make a “complaint”. And my surprise is that such a little set of lungs can make such a LARGE volume of Sound.
It’s funny seeing the normally lovely Sue in that cartoonish pose and facial expression in the last panel- Lynn normally takes such care at drawing the attractive women that you don’t often see the “off-model” joke expressions like that. She’s more prone to drawing potato-shaped Elly like that.

Uncorked that pacifier (or binky, ninny, dummy, soother or whatever) too soon.

I could not agree with her co-workers more in the final panel.

If Ann offered to babysit April throughout the day, why not just take her up on her offer? Why bring your baby to work at a library?

Never a god idea to have a baby at work.

So it begins. Little pink cheeks turn into a pink check.

Fine until a baby starts to scream and cry.

Ahhh, yes. A baby in a library. Easy to see THAT working well.
