Jason: Two bees. Marcus: ...Or not two bees. Jason: Is this a digger which I see before me? Jason: A hose! A hose! My kingdom for a hose! Paige: Must you geeks do that right where I'm studying Shakespeare?! Jason: Hey, all the yard's a stage. Marcus: Aaaa! Four bees!

I love the old joke that Shakespeare is a bad writer because of all the cliches.
LibrarianInTraining over 15 years ago
My grandfather’s joke, so you’ll pardon if it’s lame:
Shakespeare? A great writer? Are you kidding? You seen his f’s? They look like S’s! Never dotted his i’s. Crossed his t’s in all the wrong places. Terrible writer that Shakespeare.
I believe he stole it from Mel Brook’s 2000 year old man. But when I was 9 it had me rolling.

ninmas, I know what you mean. When I was in school, Shakespeare with his wording, at the time seemed like a march to battle with your hands tied behind your back.

Isnt the movie “She’s the man” an adaptation of 12th Night?

Thanks for decoding “Q” for me Tinyc, that one had me stumped. 24.

Willie Wrote plays. They should be read out loud. Makes a real difference in understanding them.

If you’re lucky enough to know who Terry Pratchett is you should read his work out loud as well. Most of the jokes work so much better when spoken.

Truly Trivial Shakespeare: Christopher Robin (Milne) played Andrew Aguecheek while still a lad, as much thanks to his blond hair as for any other reason.

One of the best Fox Trots ever for my tastes! :)

Dypak: Not only is “She’s The Man” an adaptation of “Twelfth Night,” but “10 Things I Hate About You” is an adaptation of “Taming Of The Shrew.” And Kurosawa’s movie “Ran” is based on “King Lear.” I think my favourite “non-Shakespeare” Shakespeare movie (that is, not directly taken from the script) is Al Pacino’s documentary “Looking For Richard.” Fabulous movie.

Not only Sir Willie, but many good movies start out as adaptations from the classics. Steve Martin’s adaptation of Silas Marner (A Simple Twist of Fate) is one of his best movies (Kind of like his adaptation of Cyrano De Bergerac - Roxanne is also a good flick! – I love the riff on the size of his nose in the bar!)
Problem is that no modern writers seem to be up to tackling the ‘big’ issues ….

I miss my daily Foxtrot. I used to look forward to receiving FBFW and Foxtrot in the inbox each morning before heading out to the Computer Science classes. Unix! Cmos! I cut out the cmos underwear one and kept it to giggle at when Assembly got too hard. I wish they’d restart the dailies again like Peanuts or FBFW have done. At least we get fresh Sundays. :) Jason understands that it doesn’t matter–Shakespeare, LoTR, computers–it’s all humorous in the right light.
Go Foxtrot! You rock Bill and we love you.
