I’m reading this on my iPad which is vastly superior to my computer for just this purpose because I can enlarge anytime I need to!

Not to slight any other Reader! I love them all. I can carry all the books I’ll ever need in one small tablet. This is the greatest age to be alive!

The weird stuff is Objective C, the programming language for iThings.

Looks to me like the son, Jason, had a big say in picking out whatever that thing is.Hope he still doesn’t have a grudge from Mom torturing him with her iFruit machine a while back.

I have too many paperback books to read before I can get a nook or kindle. How long does the battery usually last?

Merry Christmas! I thought this comic is no longer updated, but this seems up to date in terms of technology?

Nope, not Objective-C, although it does have square brackets like that programming language. The dollar-sign makes it clear that it’s not. Looks like it’s intended to be a reminiscent of a scripting language like PERL or some custom markup you’d use to insert strings into a cartoon at runtime. Nothing specifically Apple related here, I agree it’s a general comment on the possible downside of e-reading in general. Oh, and it is funny of course! Merry Xmas!

I read it as saying that Bill put his comic up for bids earlier and nothing came through.

Back in July ‘11 I bought the Kindle sponsored keyboard one. It shows ads when I turn it off and at other times, never in the area where the pages of the books are though. It was $25 cheaper at $114 because of the ads that never got in my way of reading that I thought it foolish to pay $25 more for less. I read over a hundred books on it and then seen where Amazon was coming out with the Kindle Fire. I got it about a month ago and haven’t picked up the Kindle keyboard one since. The Kindle Fire, being backlit is so much easier for me to read with my 64 year old eyes.

Now, to give the Kindle Keyboard to someone for a present. LOL Oh, I forgot, I can’t do that. People don’t appreciate things anymore. That was a HARD lesson for me to learn, give people items and have them act like they had it OWED to them and then lots of times they would treat the item like it wasn’t worth anything. Nope, much better to not go through that.

I don’t know how a person does find people who DO appreciate being helped these days instead of standing around with their hand out and saying “Give me, give me”, as if the world OWES them.

I’ve worked hard over the years for the little I do have, and it just hurts too much to give something to someone who I think will appreciate it and later hear through the grapevine they have told their “friends”; “Look at what I conned that old guy out of” with a big smile on their face.

I just don’t need that. I’m sure there are others of you on here who know exactly what I mean because you have had it done to you too.

Merry Christmas everyone! May peace be with you and your loved ones.

Fairportfan2 — You just blew my mind. Do you mean to say that if I’m watching a ballgame on the tube, I am seeing different ads on the electronic billboards than I’d be seeing if I were actually in the stadium? I never even thought of that.

I got a converting vehicular robot figure, a feline warrior figure with enchanted blade, an electric mouse figure, and two digitally-encoded video discs of animation from the Orient.
