So Roger’s day at the office was — as I at times say — uneventful?

Face it, Roger; her days are worse than yours. It’s not your fault. No reason to feel guilty about that.

No way to win. The art of killing a conversation.

Oh, she’s good. She’s really good.

My husband used to do that. If my day was good, his was bad. If my day was bad, his was worse. If mine was REALLY bad, he’d say, “Well, don’t take it out on me.” Thankfully, that stopped years ago. (Of course, what helps is that, with his working 3rd shift, both of our days end when the other is just waking up…so there’s no basis of comparison! LOL)

What if he said “I had the worst day possible”?

Gotcha! Again. Give it up, dude.

Yeah, I imagine with all the kids at school, sitting there at that table doing the crosswords and drinking coffee all day is really horrible.

Maybe if he asked her first it wouldn’t become a comparison ;)

And this is one of the reasons marital conversations can break down. Just be open, listen, supportive, and trying to outdo the other spouse.

A bad day for a police officer is different than a bad day for an investor is different than a bad day for a store manager.

Missing the point…she just needs you to listen and empathize, Roger.

She would complain even if you hung her with a new rope.
