Why would the term “bigwig” mean anything but “someone who wears a large wig”?

Years ago I worked at a place where my department had to endure an efficiency expert for two weeks. I don’t think I’ve loathed anyone so much as I loathed that person.

They come in and recommend using cheap materials and then a consultant is called in because of product quality.

Efficiency consultants are the critical step a company takes when about to lay off people who have loyally worked for years.

I use fountain pens at work. She would flip if she saw my BBB Oblique nibs on some of them.

Bigwig means an important person, someone with power and influence, a big shot. Not a smart, creative, or accomplished person. (Not to say the two categories never overlap, of course.)

Gonna be some writedowns.

I do not trust her judgment. She could have saved money on a smaller wig, if any.

The checks I get from my bank have the bank’s name in light gray where I write the amount in long form. To be sure the amount shows clearly, I write the amount using a bold tip pen.

Looks like the aliens from Mars attacks.
