    As a math major, I loved Geometry. It made my life congruent.

    Paige, Paige, Paige, math does come naturally to all people. When you were little and your brothers had more chicken nuggets than you or their piece of cake was bigger than yours and you complained, that was math at work. When you wanted to watch TV longer instead of going to bed, that was math at work.

    It is whether you choose to learn how to use the math that is all around you or not, that is at the heart of the question.

    Years ago, on a radio program featuring excerpts of TED Talks, I heard two speakers claim there is something wrong with the way we teach math. They said kids naturally do some math, but school somehow turns them off. Neither indicated what they think is wrong, and neither had suggestions on what changes should be made.
