Actually, I think it would help to have a “sensitive” mute button: whenever the volume increases above a certain set level, the sound mutes (or gets cut in half, or whatever you want). With most shows, you might miss some sound effects, but likely you’d get all the ads muted…
i work afternoons, so i watch TV shows on tape (for the most part) and fast forward through the commercials. if i’m watching tape of a baseball game i can even fast forward through the wasted time between pitches (though i usually only do that if my team is playing against the Yankees).
This comic strip is right. There are too many annoying, and depressing commercials about every sickness and disease known to man on television. When I was growing up there was only the Geritol commercial. Now there are at least twenty or more different pill commercials during a two hour period of television. If you spent time hitting the mute button to silence all those commercials you’ll be too tired and depressed to watch your programs!

And why would a guy care about feeling ‘fresh’? Females certainly don’t want him getting ‘fresh’!

If you don’t like what’s on television, turn it off. Log on gocomics instead.

Why did you interrupt this cartoon with a cartoon about a commercial?

Strange how that little “mute” button improves television.

And half of the commercial is about the potential side effects, which are much scarier than the original disease!
