When I was a child, a parent took a noisy child outside until they were quiet. Many parents today seem to think everyone enjoys hearing their children scream or think that they are so adorable running around that other patrons don’t mind. Unfortunately, often the same goes for church, weddings, and other events. It’s especially annoying when a couple has gone to the time and expense to hire a babysitter so that they can get away from their children for some quiet adult time and wind up listening to other people’s kids scream.
Go McDain’s, when I want to hear kids I go to a family place but there are times I like peace and quiet. Now most parents are afraid to punish a child for what others will think of them. I’m not talking about hitting a child but time out (with no TV), removal of toys, and just having to sit still. Just spent the week-end with family and kid from h___. When told no he would throw a fit and then get what he wanted. Good training. His K teacher is going to love him. This week-end time out was watching his favorite cartoons that were recorded. Yea, that’ll teach him right from wrong. I won’t even go into the spitting when he is mad.
I guess I am old school because I always removed my kids from a restaurant if they misbehaved and went home. But we also made it crystal clear on proper behavior before we went. They are well behaved and it is noticeable when compared to their friends’ behavior.
I think it’s pitiful how kids behave these days and how easily parents give into them. Raising kids properly takes a lot of work and many are too lazy to do it right. They want the schools to do it and wonder why their kids aren’t getting an education at the same time. This will be the downfall of our country.
In our church, we don’t mind a certain amount of children’s sounds. It means the church is still growing, and we are there for a family meal anyway. (Do you exile the kids from Thanksgiving dinner, or a Birthday supper?)
However, we are also glad after a certain point, when a parent hustles out a child who is too loud or persistent.
