Bowling- The Early Years Frank: This game will never catch on -- it's too hard on the goalie.
Before Brunswick automated them, the alleys had pin spotters — mostly teenaged boys. They had to be quick and nimble.
It took a while to figure out step 2………………
Later, pins of wood would be easier to score with, especially after light weight used skulls began to be used for knocking them over. (origin of the phrase, “and heads will roll”.)
That reminds me, our darts team is looking for a goalie, anyone interested?
Used skulls? They couldn’t afford new ones?
Got an idea…. slow the game down… by having a cigarette or two…. ! ! !
Yes, a quick and deserved end to… Bowkey? Howling?
I once had a job as a javelin catcher, but was fired because I got never got the point of it.
