Coincidentally, I have an urge to say this to one of my grad school professors.

Well, SOME people use a hammer as a nutcracker…

That said, the quote marks in Caulfield’s word balloon appear to be meaningful, but I miss the hidden meaning. Frazz, I ain’t.

If he only could, he surely would….

If he would have said it, he’d have been screwed….

I got stuck on panel 1 thinking there was some numerical significance with Caufield saying ‘That works out….’ Dang if I could figure anything though. Any math wiz’ out there?

I’d rather be the socket wrench. Much more versatile.

At least he’s smart enough to NOT say what he was thinking in frame 3. ;-)

One possibility for Caulfield’s comment in the first panel: If you look at the question numbers, it adds up to 42 questions. 42 (from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) is the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything!

I literally cannot hear 42 without thinking (or saying, if I’m caught in a weak moment: “42? That’s all you’ve got to show for seven and a half million years?” I sometimes paraphrase, but the gist is always there.
