Frazz by Jef Mallett for February 22, 2015
Transcript:
Caulfield: Happy double-downhog day! Mr. Spaetzle: Happy what day? Caulfield: If you don't like what the groundhog predicted on February two, you get to try again on February two-two! Mr. Spaetzle: What kind of world would it be if we just gambled on wishing away old misfortunes instead of forging boldly ahead? Caulfield: I don't know. This one? But you're taking your chances because the results are doubled. Mr. Spaetzle: That's ridiculous, Caulfield. Wait. Forget I asked. Caulfield: Too late! But you can ask me again on 2/22/22.

2/22/22 only works with the strange American way of writing dates, I’m afraid.

Only in civilian life. U.S. military conventions are closer to European style. Use of the 24-hour clock instead of A.M. and P.M., and putting the month between the day and the year. Military communications are labeled, for example, 22 Feb 2015 — and are addressed that way orally, as well. Such as, “I’m going to the miss the staff meeting on 20 August, so please take notes for me.”

Ewal Doh: The International (not just Europe) system would have 22 II 22, the Roman numeral month giving a helpful hint as to which system it is. Scholarly documents would go from large to small, 2022 F 22, or maybe spell out the month so one can determine what language the paper is in.
