Mr. Spaetzle: What's with the distance-swimming obsession? I thought you were all about the triathlon. Frazz: This can only make me better. Caulfield: The beauty of mediocrity is that anything can make you better. Mr. Spaetzle: Good luck improving on that quote.

In that case.“Every day and in every way, I am getting better, and better.”(name this quote)

I think Spaetzel is talking to us, although he is looking at Caulfield. Ok, Here goes:
Don’t part with your illusions. When they are gone, you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.
Courtesy of Mark Twain. (No one said it had to be an original quote.) If an original quote is required, in reference to yesterdays strip, and the acronym DNF (did not finish) my original quote is as follows: I would rather DNS (did not start).

Don’t be ridiculous, when you are mediocre, you can remain so, or get better, or get worse.

As a friend once said, "I always expect the worst. That way, if it happens, I know it expected it. If something better does, I feel pretty good. "

Nonsense, Caulfield—mediocrity means you’re pretty much near the median in performance. At that level, there are lots and lots of things you can do to make your performance worse.

A mediocre triathlete is still way ahead of a person who excels at being a couch potato.

Night-Gaunt49Couéism was a big fad about a century ago. It even survived WW-I, but I hadn’t even heard it in years.

In respons to Bigpuma’s comment yesterday. I did not ask specifically for an apology.
I was asking for you to explain why you are justified in using snark and sarcasm to attack a strip for no productive reason other than to irritate people who do like it.
If, on the other hand, you for some reason come to the unlikely decision that you had no justifiable reason for posting your comments, then it would be appreciated if you posted this instead.

Jeff0811If you stated it here, for the first time, and no one else has said it, it is a statement, not a quote. Accuracy, we should strive for accuracy, just to avoid misunderstanding.

I’d rather not start than needlessly risk getting sick for a hobby. There are safer ways to exercise.
