As a foreigner I have a bone to pick with that expression. It took me years to find a native English speaker who could explain what it meant (that was before the internet) and even he couldn’t tell me where it came from.
I learned about classical music from Bugs. I’m a professional musician now, have been for a few decades. But I still hear the Bugs Bunny words when I play the Barber of Seville Overture.
