Those same people will leave books in terrible shape as well, especially the best-sellers. Children’s books are even worse, but that’s understandable. No excuses for adults folding pages, highlighting passages, tears, stains, crumbs.
What … no comments on the snarky Frazz who objects to a woman using her backseat as a dumpster? Is he saying that he’s a professional cleaner and everyone else needs to toe the line?
The tinting depends on the state. In a little enforced rule, there are limits to how dark you can make a window in my state, but nothing about back seats only.
You know those Plexiglas partitions that go between the front and back seats of old-style taxicabs? The companies that make them must be getting nervous as Über and Lyft and other gig rides cut into the market share with either more confidence in their fellow man, a higher tolerance for risk or more freedom to avoid picking up fares they’re not so sure about. And buying fewer bulletproof partitions.
If they’re looking to retool and build a similar, but future proof, product, I suggest something the same size to go in the same location, but more of a swinging flap like you often see on public trash receptacles. The slovenly driver won’t be replaced by Über Mess, and is not going away.

It would be funny to see a car with a column of date stamps on it.

Free, not so much. But car rentals have existed for a long time!

Have you seen the condition library books get into after a couple of years? I wouldn’t want a car in that condition, no matter the price.

They would be way too expensive to maintain if they rented out cars for free.

Have you noticed that some people who would NEVER lend anything of their own want to borrow yours?

In some Finnish libraries you can borrow a power drill (most popular non-book item.)

Some libraries lend ties, briefcases, and handbags, so young people can look proper for job interviews. Not a bad idea.

“Check out a car for free.” TANSTAAFL: There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. Or anything else, either.
