I guess the Puppy Days would start with the Heliacal rising of Procyon, the brightest star in Canis Minor.

Technically it is not Astronomical Summer. That starts on 20 June this year. However, the first day of Meteorological Summer was, and always is, on 1 June.

The “Dog Days of Summer” is traditionally when Sirius, the Dog Star is ascendant according to the Ancients – July and August – the heat from Sirius was said to make men ‘sweat’ at midnight as if they were standing in the midday sun hence “The Dog Days of Summer” – Sirius, the Dog Star – woof, woof.

Supposedly “Horses sweat, men perspire, women glow.”Is it okay to refer to someone “glowing like a pig”?
