Talking to yourself is okay. So is answering yourself, or arguing with yourself. However, Dear Abby said to get help if you start to interrupt yourself.
I am in favor of talking to ones-self. You verbalize, and analyze, your thoughts. This helps clarify things in your mind. You can also take a different stance on your thoughts without anyone poo-pooing your ideas.
“For I was talking to myself. A habit of the old: they choose the wisest person present to speak to; the long explanations needed by the young are wearying.” Gandalf.
Being alone most of the time talking out loud to myself is keeping in practice. I also write out then speak the dialog I have to see if it can be spoken normally.
