Yesterday, Fred was having a bad day and I hoped it would be better for him today. I sure was wrong. Fred’s bad luck is getting worse and his friends are starting to suffer with him.
In a recent strip where Fred was trying to get sausages, someone mentioned A Bridge Too Far, Today’s strip reminds me of A Bridge Too Far and The Charge of the Light Brigade as well as Gunfight at the OK Corral.
I had an uncle who fought at the Battle of Arnhem and was taken prisoner. He survived the war but died before I could know him. I knew two uncles who survived World War II and died from smoking-related illnesses in the 1980s.
One of the two uncles was my Uncle Alf who read the Daily Mail in which Fred appears. I first discovered Fred in the 1970s TV series and then my Uncle Alf and Auntie Elsie started sending their copies of the Daily Mail to me so that I could read about Fred in them. Many thanks to Uncle Alf for his military service and his generousity as an uncle.
Have we met the Marley Road Mob? I don’t remember ever seeing them before, although Fred and friends obviously have. Of course the Grosvenor Avenue Gang shows up about once a month.
Better watch out for the Mob in particular, since they have another Scottie!

Clowns to the left of them; jokers to their right. Here we are; stuck in the middle with them.

Fred, if I were you, I would avoid the corner of Grosvenor Ave. and Morley Rd.
