Hey, Fred! It doesn’t matter if they’re borrowed. When you look good, you look good. And I have to admit, grump or not, Mr. Dear cleans up well. He does look good.

Yay, morning dress! Gray, striped trousers; black Oxfords; white shirt; vest; ascot; cutaway coat—and a top hat! Reminds one of Fred Astaire . .

I guess he’s a Best Man of a groomsman in someone’s wedding, or do men in Britain dress like this to simply attend one

From phrases dot org dot uk. What is the meaning of the phrase “borrowed plumes”? Here is the sentence in which it is used: “There are no false colors, no borrowed plumes, no empty pretensions.”

Plumes, worn as personal adornment, were in olden days a mark of distinction. “Wearing borrowed plumes” means claiming distinction that really belongs to someone else.

Does anyone outside of Royalty or British nobility wear a tailcoat and top hat anymore? This is beyond a mere Tuxedo!
