Ah, but it is germane.

So far, I knew that the people with whom I was interacting had no idea of my experience. The people generating the effect had no idea of my existence. There couldn’t be any standard mechanism of information exchange at work. There was a theoretical thing called quantum entanglement, but that was for particles, not people. Also, I had no connection to the people involved. There was no starting point to unravel this ball of twine. With a bit of effort, I found I could separate the static effect from normal perceptions, so I got both the real events and the false impressions. That made it easier to get by.
