If the tooth wasn’t rotten, a root canal may have saved the tooth from being pulled. My goal is to always keep the tooth if possible. He needed to go to a Vet Dentist that provides that service. Most Vet’s just pull the tooth without considering the options.
I watched a program about the ugly dog contest held in California a couple years ago. They pointed out that the dogs that have their tongue hang out is sometimes because they have lost a tooth or teeth on the side. And, with that long snout, the teeth help hold the tongue in place when relaxed.
Awww! I love Shawm! Watching this comic strip from the beginning has been a fine study in how to get one going. Strips are not like the thousands of books and films that have a beginning, a middle, a climax, and an ending or coda. When I first watched “The Sword in the Stone in 1964,” I was puzzled at the seeming lack of climax; at least, the climax was so muted. Now I see it for what it is: a series of great episodes in an old saga. Comics strips don’t need that big story arc and climax, though they might use it. Instead, they are more like “Furbabies” is: a lot of episodes, and sometimes with what Sparky Schulz has called “slight incidents,” as, e.g., a single Ludwig cat strip in Mr. Johnson’s “Arlo and Janis.” Hurrah to Ms. Beiman!! I apologize for my prolix comment, but I had to say it!

I’m sorry, Shawm. I’d bet that the only dogs that get restorative dentistry are show dogs, police dogs, and maybe rich people’s dogs.

Good job he didn’t tell the kids. They’d help him look for it.

I wonder if he is still feeling the effects of the anesthesia. He seems quite subdued.

It is so believable for big strong animals to be afraid of the dentist. Poor Shawm!

I’m reading this right after getting home from the dentist – all four quadrants need crowns and maybe, root canals. I’m feeling with you, Shawm!

Can dog teeth be crowned? Is it too risky since they’ll swallow it down so easily without it being obvious?
