At our first apartment, my husband & I bought a little yellow Sunbeam grill (similar to the one in the comic) and wanted to christen it with a cookout with friends. My husband put in the charcoal, added the fluid, put in the match…FWOOM When the fire died down we noticed that the little “Sunbeam” metal nameplate was missing! We looked down, and most of it had melted into the walkway where we were grilling. You could only make out the “unbe” and the rest was a silver blob.
This has been done on Foxtrot like about a billion times. I haven’t used lighter fluid in ages.I use one of those aluminum chimneys. Put the charcoal in the top, a couple of pieces of newspaper in the bottom. Light the newspapers and wait. Have a beer. The charcoal will be red hot in about fifteen minutes.

Twigs and paper work better. And no aftertaste.

I use a Weber chimney with paper on the bottom… Works great, safe, no chemical taste.

Jon has about as much luck with grilling as Roger Fox.

Some old cooking oil and a paper towel are all you need. Lights up nicely and no aftertaste.

That title bar, it somehow reminds me of the McLaren MP4-32 livery!
