I think Gertie’s weight loss is entirely due to this situation what with all the jitters about seeing Byrd, all the sweating from worry over getting caught, all the running and dancing… bet she’ll crash when the day is over! And be hitting the pain reliever in the morn!
Dypak said, …Gertie gets embarressed, think’s she’s in trouble and runs away, leaving a single shoe behind. Then Earl will have to track her down, a la Cinderella.
OK, but I’ll bet she leaves the wig behind instead of her shoe!
That’s the best thing about reading comics here, rather than in print. In print I’d end up reading the once I hate.
I hadn’t thought of that advantage before. In the newspaper, I’d sometimes accidentally read a panel or two of Garfield, then desperately pull away before the punchline!
I like your idea axe grinder. She loses the wig as she’s trying to escape and Earl has to try to fit the wig to every woman’s head in the kingdom til he finds his Gertie.
“But this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though,
No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow,
And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
And watch the river flow.
Watch the river flow,
Watchin’ the river flow,
Watchin’ the river flow,
But I’ll sit down on this bank of sand
And watch the river flow.”
Go Gertie go! You’re right Axe, the wig is a much better idea.
Boldyuma, Divine at least would have known what to do on stage. Belt out a few show tunes, camp it up, tell some bad jokes. I think we’re much better off with Gertie.

And she’s off and runnnninnnggg !
Is being a track star in Gertie’s future?

This isn’t Gertie any more. She’s been transmogrified into a new character. I guess that’s what happens when you get tossed into the crucible of love.
Anyway, I like this one. She looks like Betty Boop with a few extra pounds. Two thumbs up!

More like Fanny Brice, actually. And apparently a more bombastic performer than she was!

I love the Cinderella idea some had yesterday!

Yes, and when she loses the wig she is transformed back to the old Gertie…

And once again, the drawing is stunning.

Okay, I was a little confused yesterday…seems like this strip should have run before that one. Still, well-drawn and keepin’ me entertained.

It’s getting to be like a plot from a 60s Dick Van bleeep movie.

Crappy nannybot! I meant Julie Andrews’ co-star in “Mary Poppins”

Not only do we have an “I Love Lucy” plot, but today’s panel seems to be a storyboard from “Singin’ In The Rain”.

I so like see GA strip and this story like, evan though in the past, is fun. I wonder if Uncle Walt will see Gertie?
jpozenel about 15 years ago
As usual, the artwork is great! But the story has stalled for several days now.
boldyuma about 15 years ago
I still say Gertie looks like the female impersonator “Divine”….Oh…right “Divine” was bald… nose is about the same…
oldbooger about 15 years ago
This has really become a drag. Please can we soon have some closure? Bring the GA characters out of mothballs.

Gertie’s face has lost its realistic look.
