While I enjoy most everything about Gasoline Alley… I have noticed how there tends to be far more comments and (indirectly) seemingly more interest in the comic when Joel and Rufus are featured. I have to admit myself, that I am always MUCH more enthused about the comic and looking forward to each new panel myself when I anticipate Joel and Rufus. To me, it was something I became aware of this morning when I was anticipating another Joel and Rufus… and yet they were not featured (albeit it is still their story line)…. I was feeling a little let down.
Scancarelli’s art work is always good but…..Character depth is not his strength. The previous GA authors (Perry, etc) developed real people (such as Garrison Keillor does.). Jokes have replaced humor.
when I was much younger I read this strip daily. I lost track for a long time as the big city papers didnt carry it. So heres my ??, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO MELBA AND DID SHE AND JOEL EVER GET TOGETHER?
