Coming this fall on Bravo – “The Real MILF’s of Milford” starring Mimi Thorp, Mrs. Lark and the return of Glory Alcala as the hot, impetuous softball coach.
This comic is actually extremely realistic when it comes to High School situations; but plots like this are impossible. A mother-son relationship like that would be screaming for Child Welfare.
What did Mrs. Lark do that was so terrible? The worst they ever showed was her wobbling a bit and running into a door frame. Mostly, she fell asleep. That’s not to say she doesn’t need help, but a few drunken tirades against her absent husband would have made her shame more realistic.
Kenny’s Mom may be the first drunk ever not to go through denial, anger, and all the other steps one goes through when dealing with addiction. Maybe it’s Gil’s special powers.
Kenny’s comment in P1 almost made me laugh out loud . . .
If Mimi is not banging the pool boy, then Gil is pushing her right down that avenue. Look at her in P3, she is craving for attention, and Gil sits there cross armed. I’m surpriseed her right hand is not in his lap. Gil is Capt. Oblivious to the sittuation, and that he is pushing her into the arms of a migrant > hired help around the house.
@Stealth — I agree it’s not funny. I just think her drinking would affect her behavior more than they showed. No car accidents, no rants, no calls to her husband in the middle of the night — nothing more than falling asleep repeatedly. I guess it’s possible.
As much as all Thorp fans can laugh at the “play-downs”, how late every strip seems to be behind the times, I must confess that this latest series has struck a cord, and means much more than it portends to be. Quite simply it speaks of the downfall of addiction, and the necessary steps to finallly overcoming addiction. If it only touches one person, I personally will never attack the writers and artists of this column. It has provided me and “you”, whether you recognize it or not, with the means to beat addiction, AA. Alcoholics Anonymous. Go ahead, laugh and joke. The only winners are those who accept the message and go forward proclaiming the benefits of the program. Go in peace. —Felipo

Three panels and everything is wrapped up! She could have at least hit Gil with a Vodka bottle before it was over!

It would help if it said “Mimi” or “Molly” on the cup.
