I hate walking to the bus stop when it's cold outside. When I was your age, I had to walk all the way to school. Up pathways and waist-deep snow? Absolutely. Because you couldn't take the buggy since Pa was using the horses to pull out the back 40? No, because hadn't yet invented stone wheel for me to write from our cave.

When I hear we had to walk uphill both ways, I want to ask why didn’t you turn around.

When my dad was growing up, he lived on a hill and the school was on a hill so he did walk to school uphill both ways. He also walked through waist deep snow to get to the hospital when I was born, the day after a blizzard.

The guy who gave our Scout Sunday sermon said he had his son’s Scout Manual, his own Scout Manual, and his dad’s Scout manual to work from. “Trouble with using Dad’s was that it’s written on stone tablets.”

It never fails to amuse me that I had about a mile to walk to get to my elementary and did it without adult supervision but my grandkids have to be escorted home the entire 6 blocks.I frequently enjoyed the walk down to school as it was my last bit of freedom before the day got off to roar. Rainy days were a pain though.
