Ah, the effects of a growth spurt and the expectations of youth.
Even this many decades out I well recall wanting to have curves substantially before I got them (and the most pressure I felt then was not from magazines but from the comments of boys from my grade and my neighborhood when they compared girls and raved about the ones who were developing earlier than others of us, though some girls teased the late bloomers in the locker room, too).
I also remember getting much thinner very suddenly when I was 13 and grew 7 inches in one school year. Nothing else could keep up with my bones so I wound up becoming 5’7" but weighing in the mid 90 pounds. A number of the kids did that with major growth spurts. There were many skinny girls in 9th and 10th grades. I also recall that I wound up taller than some of the boys for a while (not a problem), and that for me the school had to reinstate a regulation it needed every few years.: classroom doors wound up having to be closed when students were changing classes rather than left open. My muscles could not keep up with my bone growth and I used to fall sideways into the open doorways while walking down the hall until my muscles finally caught up with the growth spurt. Every few years a kid did that and the rule was then needed.
Hopefully, the Heart character will not get charlie horses from the growth, but she might. A lot of kids do.

Wait until you’re twice as old, and you’ll be living in a different world. Of course your mother will ground you every other week.

Girls, why do you do this to yourselves?

We still think you’re cute, Heart. And I’m sure Dean doesn’t mind seeing you in a one piece.

Sadly, it starts way younger than Heart’s age.

Heart is in need of some character ‘development’. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.

young teen girls are seldom happy with their appearance, not matter how pretty they are to the rest of us.

Heart needs to not worry about worldly looks and concentrate on being the best she is. For she is awesome!
