At 13 I would think Heart has begun being taught out to cook. But competence is not funny so all characters have to be incompetent.

I’ve made the mistake of not checking the setting when I’ve been tired.

Take out was apparently not an option.

Really, Heart? You’re like 15 and still don’t know how to cook?!

Reader’s note: (a) since when do digital ovens let you set the temperature of a broiler (I can understand it on an older oven where the temperature is on one dial and the setting is on another), and (b) if it’s the correct temperature, does it really matter if it’s “bake” or “broil”? Other than “bake” cooking from the bottom and “broil” cooking from the top, what’s the difference?

Newer ovens use the broiler at the start of preheat to get the temperature up faster. Unless you want to broil what you put in there, wait till the preheat is done.

In this case, Heart is still absent minded, and as in the past, does not pay attention to detail. She started junior high at age 11, which would be grade 6.

Heart is 11 or 12 in this re-iteration…

Junior high starts in grade 6 so it would be age 11, and it takes in grades: 6, 7, 8 where we live. I don’t remember if she has aged since that new beginning. Anyone remember: did she graduate to grade 7?
