Nowadays, it’s the pages of e-mails, all marked urgent!

This doesn’t happen now that I’m on a extended vacation (retirement)!

Wilson: Yes, sir, I will be through these by Christmas. Just don’t ask which year.

And this will be in your in-box when you get back. Then I’ll have a nice vacation.

I took a weeks vacation once. It took me 2 1/2 days to get caught up. Never again. I only take one or two days now. My last day until retirement is Dec 22nd.

Now, thanks to smart phones, you can take the office with you on vacation. I tell the people in my office that I am spelunking in the Guatemalan jungle and don’t have any “bars” there: even if I’m only taking one day off. When I unplug, I unplug.

I’m running out the clock to retirement and have no ambition to climb the corporate ladder so I don’t have to play the game by all the rules.

So either he’s important because nobody else can do what he does —

    or unimportant because nobody bothered.

Now that retirement is just a short time away, I treat even the ‘Urgent’ stuff like spam. I found most of the ‘Urgent’ stuff really wasn’t, to the point the person forgot about it in under 2 hours. They only remembered it when I eventually responded. I ignore any and all complaints. The repeat requests get a response of ‘how urgent is it really’? I then give it the same treatment as everything else. Last but not least, that stack on Wilson’s desk will be there when he gets back. Nobody will really care or notice how long it took to get done. Have a fun time, Wilson!
