Over the long course of the United States (okay, the regular length course, if you insist), the rule has USUALLY been that congress and the Senate work together to reach a compromise so that the nation will continue along a course that we all disagree with more or less equally. Only since, approximately Newt (the reptile) Gingrich has it been as divided as we now see. That’s not just a bad thing, it’s not all that common. I wish I could see how it will heal itself.
If there were solid evidence for extraterrestrials, the AF fighter mafia would have been in Congress demanding money for F-127 Pteranodon orbital fighters, while the admirals would be testifying that Halsey-class deep-space carriers were more cost-effective.
And NASA would be saying, “Ya know, we had Tranquility Base!”
I do not doubt that other intelligent species exist among the myriad of stars and galaxies. However, and I regretfully say, I doubt we will be able to contact them. The sheer distance precludes us or them from being able to visit (based on current knowledge and the laws of physics).
More than likely, they or we will find out about each other by picking up an errant signal from one of our broadcasts.
SETI has actually heard evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence. As I understand it, they regularly, , but only briefly, hear the sound of laughter and the occasional voice saying, “They did what? Oh no, they didn’t!”, then more laughter. The news has not been made public and has been hushed up and all the tapes erased and buried in a bunker on a deserted island somewhere in the Aleutians. This was discovered by the investigators of Ancient Aliens who don’t want to make it known, because it would make them look rather silly to admit all those monoliths and carvings and crop circles are really saying, “We came. We saw. We left. Because – well, just because – you know.” /s
I’ve just watched the tapes of Frank Zappa and John Denver at the Senate PMRC hearings. Fascinating stuff. Watching politicians waste money on something they’ve already made their minds up on in a bipartisan way. I imagine the UFO hearings are going the same way, but for the life of me I can’t imagine who they have testifying.
There are a lot of minor issues that the whole of congress agrees on. It’s the major issues like national debt and border control that gets the negative press coverage.
One day, to no great surprise, we will be informed that the UFO/UAP/UUWC sightings/chases have been the result of Skunkworks black projects spoofing our own armed forces in order to test fly the latest iteration of stealth platforms. When we lived in Central Oregon the DOD built two facilities, loaded with high tech capacity, 20+ miles apart to “test night vision equipment”; sometime later we found out about the F117 stealth fighters doing test flights around the interior western U.S.. It appeares those then abandoned facilities were actually there to see how one might spot those aircraft?
A refreshing exception, which it shouldn’t be, but it sure would be nice if it was concerning something a bit more relevant to making the country function better for at least the majority of its citizens.
One thing bothered me about what was said at these hearings. If these aliens are so advanced, why are they crashing all over the place and have no search and rescue facilities available?

Leave it to DUMB CONGRSS to waste time, money, and effort on a nothing investigation with all the outstanding problems around for them to ignore.

Republicans have zero interest in working together or in getting anything done, except tax breaks for the rich and voter suppression.

From what I’ve read, it’s still hearsay and innuendo lacking any empirical evidence. Sounds like more distraction.

I for one totally believe in UFOs, just not so much in extraterrestrial spacecraft
