Pioneer Elementary Sign: Bigger not better Vero: Students, due to further budget cutbacks, we have to use these sample textbooks from Texas. Student: Teacher Vero, are they any heavier? Vero: Actually, they are quite light on facts.
Not 100% sure but I think the story goes something like this: The Texas School Board wants to remove Thomas Jefferson from text books (he’s too liberal) and replace him with Calvin (no, not Calvin and Hobbs) teaching/history. Texas is the largest customer of textbooks so the textbook companies will re-print history books with this revisionist history. Then those books will be what’s available to the other states.
The ‘excuse’ is always that Texas buys more textbooks, so they get a lot of input on the content. What I want to know is what’s going on in California, aren’t they even bigger (in terms of schoolchildren)?

Are they even in those books?

Again, why is a state known for ignorance within an ignorant nation deciding our textbooks?

When he asked if the books are heavier, I guess he had heard of the phrase “everything’s bigger in Texas.”
