Quite honestly, I would believe this in a heartbeat. My family used to keep chickens, and they are vicious when it comes to getting something to eat.

Chickens descended from dinosaurs, probably T-Rex and cousins.

How big was the chicken? How small was the mouse?

I would pick the snails out of the garden and feed them to the chickens.

I don’t know about doing that toss thing but my 5 hens will eat mice in a heartbeat, they’re omnivores and actually prefer meat over grain (except corn, they seem to think that is candy). I saw a small mouse trying to steal grain once from under their feeder, the hens spotted it, all started pecking it at it at once. Tore the little thief to shreds between them.

I’ve got to deal with a rooster who loves to go after my cat’s cat food. But my cat is still the rat-catcher around here.

Ayup. Chickens are true predators. They’ll do a great job on bugs in the garden, but mice had also beware.

Yep, chickens are omnivorous and mean. I watched mine do that several times.
