Doesn’t anyone get tired of that “joke”. It was cute, once. PETA isn’t about eating or not eating animals, it’s about the ETHICAL treatment of the animals. I’m sure you knew that, but like the joke you repeated, I’m repeating this.
We should all care about the treatment of farm animals. Even if you’re indifferent to the suffering of the animals themselves, you should at least care about your own health. Well-treated animals are healthier, and healthier animals yield healthier animal products.
I lived in the UK from 1988-1992 and was considered to have been exposed to BSE during that time. So far, I have not had any health issues, but under US regs. I am not allowed to donate blood or any organs. That’s what comes from feeding cows to cows.
I thought that got started with a woman at my work. She got upset at me for a minor infraction (I threw out something she left in a common area), and I accused her of having Mad Cow Disease. HR was not amused.
I began eating a vegan regimen earlier this year. So far, so good; I’m off the statins and anti-triglyceride medications which were expensive and had scary side effects, have lost 20 pounds (15 to go), and feel better than in a long time. I’m applying for a lower health insurance rate and my last checkup was excellent. Do I miss meat, pizza, and stuff like that? A little, but I’d miss my health more if I lost it so it’s a decision I’m happy with.

Jim Gaffigan…“Fun to pet, better to chew”. chasm_b, I liked that ‘…once removed’ comment.

My mom used to tell me to eat my vegetarians so I would grow up big and strong and be able to make hamburgers.

When dining at a vegetarian’s house, always ask if they will provide a meat option for your dietary needs.

I considered switching to a vegetarian diet until I found out that eating them is still considered cannibalism.
