Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for November 02, 2015
Transcript:
Quill: Big news! A friend of mine wrote a holiday show! She says we can use it! Mom: Really? Luann: "she" as in Prudence? Quill: And she'll direct it! She's coming here from New York! Luann: Prudence is coming? Quill: Pru is an amazing director, Luann. She really understands drama. Luann: No kidding.
Apparently Quill is too bland and one-dimensional to pick up on Luann’s discomfort about Prudence. And too clueless to allay her fears.
I have to wonder what he’s learning in that drama program. Real actors study human emotions and motivations, and how to portray them onstage. The great classic dramas by Shakespeare, Ibsen, etc. delve deeply into human emotions and relationships, and good actors need to understand what they’re portraying.
Sounds like Mrs. Manezon is turning out hacks who just know how to dress up in costumes, recite lines, and move around on a stage. Considering how poor she is at set design – and needed Luann to set her straight – I think it’s a good possibility.
