Not to question the premise here (since this is obviously about another effort to show how Luann will ‘put everyone else’s needs first’), but if you were opening a new theater, wouldn’t you want something well known as a first show? How many people would be attracted to a new theater with a totally unknown play by an unknown playwright?

Meanwhile, I’d like to see Luann tell her folks that she has plans to visit New York during the holidays, and then invite Dez to come along…

Oh boy, an unknown show written and directed by a first-time amateur! The crowd for the grand opening of The Fuse will be stretched into the next Zip code! After all, it’s not as if folks have anything else to do during the Christmas holidays, right?

Better get the kerosene ready for the torch job, TJ.

So if Luann tried to object to Prudence’s presence, she would now be condemned as selfish by her parents as well as her so-called love interest. What a winning hand she’s been dealt.

I still think Luann should decide to take that New York vacation now. If Dez is busy, maybe Bernice might consider it.

Talk about drama!! Which is exactly what the cartoonists want to establish. I will withhold any judgment until we meet Prudence, but I bet it is not what Luann seems to think, or many of us commentators seem to think. But could be the other way as well. Whatever, contrary to some opinions I think this will come together as a fantastic show, and lead up to the wedding at the theater on the 11th of September. Then the only problem will be what’s next?

Implausible, you state:“Relationship 101 dictates that while Luann should trust Quill, Quill also needs to spill the details on Prudence since he’s constantly in communication with her. Prudence showing up and being “ugly and old” at the relief of Luann is not a good resolution, it just means that Quill doesn’t tell Luann anything. Luann should already know a lot about Prudence. They’ve been dating for years now, why don’t they communicate more?”I think you have raised some very valid points. Perhaps this is why, for me at least, the whole Quill and Luann relationship is IMO rather dull. I am hoping that Prudence is going to shake things up in a BIG way for the Q / L relationship “thing”. I personally would like to see Luann date some of the folks from her CC. I think it could be fun to have her date “Jacque” or “Emo”. Or, perhaps some new character who is not as bland as I tend to find Quill’s character.

Hardly a way to recoup your financial investment, Frank and Nancy. Let Mr. Gray use his Vegas connections to bring in some actual professional act, and have a grand opening that people will want to pay to see!

5For me, today, the comic arc’s bright spot is that Prudence is coming to Pitt, CA. It could become a very interesting dynamic. Unfortunately, for me, the holiday play/warehouse story is not particularly engrossing one for me (perhaps because it is the lead story featuring [bland] Quill? But, again that is purely my opinion only. I image there are many others who really like this story arc. But if this story serves as the vehicle to bring Prudence here, and IF Prudence is an exciting character, it could well be worth it.

Is money ever a real concern to anyone in this comic?? People fly at the last minute with no problem, enter college whenever they feel like it and have parties. Must be a nice way to live.

Apparently Quill is too bland and one-dimensional to pick up on Luann’s discomfort about Prudence. And too clueless to allay her fears.

I have to wonder what he’s learning in that drama program. Real actors study human emotions and motivations, and how to portray them onstage. The great classic dramas by Shakespeare, Ibsen, etc. delve deeply into human emotions and relationships, and good actors need to understand what they’re portraying.

Sounds like Mrs. Manezon is turning out hacks who just know how to dress up in costumes, recite lines, and move around on a stage. Considering how poor she is at set design – and needed Luann to set her straight – I think it’s a good possibility.

Luann will have no one to turn to with her worries. Her parents will now be sold on the great ‘Pru’, who will save their investment by riding in with a fabulous play. Any concerns Luann might want to discuss with her mother about losing Quill to Pru would be disregarded.

And it’s not as if she could talk about this with Bernice, because Bernice turns into a sarcastic attacker the minute Luann mentions a love interest.

Toni might have been some help, but will be absorbed in her own plans for her wedding.

Luann needs a real friend. Too bad Rosa is still in Peru…

As long as “suspension of disbelief” is now going to an even higher level (especially the idea that a previously-unstaged play by an heretofore-unknown author, who will also direct, is going to be a draw for the Fuze’s grand opening), I suggest that Pru is Ms. Manezon’s long-lost daughter and has just as flat a face.

On the brighter side, maybe this will end the Fuze story arc (by the play losing a bundle of money for the DeGroots, who then have to sell the warehouse-turned-theater at a loss) before it can become more time-wasting to us poor readers.

Maybe Pru’s “holiday show” involves the burning of a giant Yule log, and the hastily assembled theater curtains catch fire and the Fuse burns down. TJ files another insurance claim, Frank gets his money back, Pru goes home, and all is right with the world once more.
