I would like to complain about the geese that invade our property this time of year. I don’t mind them pooping all over the lawn – the grass loves it. It’s the tons of guano they leave in my driveway that’s an issue. I can’t make it to my car without first blazing a trail with my garden hose.

Then I realize: they were here first.

We ‘support’ six medium sized feeders and enjoy the company of all kinds of eastern birds. We can see them from the dining table and kitchen. Their incredible mid-air twists and turns prove every day why man’s jealousy of their abilities led to attempts to duplicate their flight.

The song in Mary Poppins was originally, “Feed the squirrels/tupence a bag
” Disney changed squirrels to birds in the final rewrite. ;-)

I like to refer to the Crackles and Starlings as “piggies with wings”. I have seen them empty a feeder with 5 pounds of bird seed in less than eight hours.
