Monty by Jim Meddick for June 04, 2012
Transcript:
The Titanic band... Musical heroes... They played up to the end... Calming all as they faced disaster... Gentlemen... May I? Follow me. A sus 2 3/4 time. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down... Of the big Lake they call Gitche Gumee... Um. Maybe not the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald... Oh. Right. Good point. Ok... Who knows Footloose by Kenny Loggins?

Why do I get the impression that the world would be a better place if Monty went down with the Titanic now, before he has the chance to breed?

I must proudly say that Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian legend, and The Wreck of the EF, based on an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975, is one of my personal favorites. Apparently one of Montyâs as well, eh.

victonewman, yeah, thatâs one of the coolest songs ever. It sounds like it could have been written hundreds of years beforeâŠitâs in a grand tradition of historical sea talesâŠI think those maps of Michigan that the state gives away, should have the picture of a sea monster in Lake Superior. With the words âHere be Monstersâ. I just think it would be coolâŠ.

It was midnight on the seaThe band was playing In a garda da veeâFarewell, Titanic, fare thee well
They wouldnât let Jack Johnson on board,They said this ship donât haul no poâFare thee well, Titanic, fare thee wellâŠ
(And then Jamie Brocket goes into a 20 minute oration about the captain who reads comic books and the First Mate who always carries 9 feet of rope and Jack Johnson the prizefighter whoâs ticket was the wrong color, and the âIIIIIIIIIIIIIICEBURGGGGGG!â Ah, those 60âs were a good time. I think. From what I remember)
