lol! Why do they do that i wonder? I’ve lived most of my life down slow country roads where the cars are few & far between yet i swear all the little animals (rabbits, mice, squirrels etc) choose to run across right in front of your car?!
Not only do they jump out in front of you, they stop and look at you, to give you another chance, just in case you’re a bad shot. If that fails, they run back the other direction for one last shot.
A squirrel instinct makes them especially prone to being hit by cars. When a squirrel on the ground realizes that it’s in danger, it will instinctively run back to the last place it knew it was safe. That’s often a tree that’s now on the other side of the road.
It’s an instinct that works very well if the squirrel is being chased by a dog. But evolution did not prepare squirrels to be attacked by 2-ton metal objects moving at 40 mph.
But there’s something that you can do to protect our furry little friends: pay attention. Don’t talk on the phone, don’t yell at your kids, don’t fiddle with the GPS, don’t put on your makeup… drive.
On our dirt road, you sometimes have to just sit and wait until the muffle-headed little cuties decide which way to go. On the other hand, I once had to climb out of the truck to wake up a black snake snoozing in the middle of the road. Boy, did he move when gently poked with a stick.
Please sent this squirrel monty monster off to never never land. It lost its humor the 3rd day after he showed up. Seriously, if you can’t come up with anything better than this, it’s time to retire or reboot the entire comic.
Maybe have Doc take Monty to the future where Fleshly came from – then he could be Fleshly’s pet – now that would be a fun strip to read!

Almost the end of our woes! Or, does the second panel show Squinty multiplying? The thought is too painful!

I’m afraid Monty’s squirrel twin will go very soon.

Can you imagine explaining to your insurance that your car got totaled because you hit a squirrel?

That would have been a good way to end this series.

Bah. The local squirrels here [NE FL] use the power lines to cross.

If crossing the road is involved, this character won’t be with us long.

Monty has to convince Squonty to use more of his human side or he won’t be around long.

Whew that was close. Imagine being the car owner trying to explain that to his insurance agent.

On the bright side, Monty didn’t aim that gadget at a skunk.
