Summer camp, the only time of the year that Sedgwick is forced to mingle with the hoi palloi. You would think that Father would find a camp for privileged children.
Sedgwick must play kickball about as good as I did when I was in school. I was not very athletic. I always got picked last for a team or a team was made to take me by default. I was considered a handicap. :-(
When as a kid I belonged to the YMCA, we’d occasionally play dodgeball. Half the kids on one side of the gym, half on the other, all flinging volleyballs at the other side. When you were hit, you were out. Almost everybody huddled against the back wall of their side, where they could see the balls coming in time to avoid them. That meant a lot of loose balls rolled toward the middle of the gym. One day I decided to help my team by heading toward the center line, keeping my head up to watch for incoming balls, and swat the loose balls back to my teammates behind me so they’d have more ammo. Then there came the point where I was still on high alert but didn’t see any more balls to swat back, and nobody was throwing any more at me. Somebody said “OK, Russell, what are you going to do now?”, and I realized that the other side didn’t have any balls left to throw, and they weren’t getting any new ones, either. I glanced behind me and saw that the entire rest of my team had been eliminated, but every ball in the game was just lying around on my side of the gym.

What in the world are they playing? It looks like home base + a pitcher’s mound, but the soccer ball??

To show real contempt, they are not even doing the “crotch cover”. :)

Yup. They are all confident the ball won’t reach that far.

Sedgie is getting a serious dose of reality at camp. Next year he will buy better campers.
