I endorse the use of ice cream as an incentive to boost the participation rate.

Also go vote, if you haven’t already.

Here in Florida, there’s been a new record set in the number of voters turning out for early voting. (I vote by mail because waiting in lines with an arthritic back means I need to sit down, and there are no chairs.) I hope the large turnout is a good sign…

I need to ponder before I say anything beyond this: Oh, my gosh, I love this in so many ways… not the least of which is the “audience participation” element. More later.

Much as I hate to break up voting chat*, longer term fans of Nancy may be in interested in this article in the Daily Cartoonist, where D. D. Degg looks at some Peanuts strips drawn by Nancy alum Al Plastino, who some consider as having captured Bushmiller’s look better than anyone.

Peanuts by Plastino would have … led to interesting comments these days, if nothing else.

*Being completely serious here. Elections are like crack cocaine for me.

I approve of using icecream, or even frozen yoghurt, as incentive to vote.

I bribed my son with lunch for voting. Probably illegal, but I don’t think he’ll turn me in.

Nice try, Ms. Jaimes, but good luck getting some ice cream shop to honor it.

Nancy knows her civic duty! To support the local ice cream parlor!

And…. ice cream does seem like a great reward for voting! Now I have to decide if my wife and I will go to Baskin Robbins or to Coldstone Creamery after voting tomorrow! :)

Crack cocaine is commonly considered much better than an election.

Only “Nancy” could be at once meta and a method to get out the vote.

I voted without an extra “incentive” since voting can be its own reward.

Just remember – if you don’t vote, you give up your right to complain about the outcome.

Excellent strip today. Thank you, Olivia Jaimes! My former polling place would have baked goods for sale on Election Day, and the current place— a church (!?) — sometimes has free cookies and coffee. A few churches have election-night spaghetti dinners, where the local incumbents like to get in front of the TV cameras. While “political statement” clothing is discouraged or banned, I’d consider wearing a tee that says “in science we trust.”
