Who went into Afghanistan without a plan, didn’t get bin Laden like he said he would then declared “Mission Accomplished” and started a war with Iraq to avenge his daddy?
Seems like he deserves all the scorn instead of the last guy to deal with the hot potato who was only following a treaty his predecessor signed.
I voted for Biden (not my first choice in the primaries), and generally think he’s done an adequate job as president to this point. I have no qualms about laying blame at Biden and his administration’s feet for not anticipating the quick collapse of the Afghan government. It seems that intelligence reports were recognizing this as a possibility last month. Wanting to end US involvement there should not have precluded a serious plan to evacuate Americans and Afghans who aided us. I think what matters now is how we respond to the humanitarian, refugee crisis that is occurring.
Fun fact, that “special immigrant visa paperwork”? That’s the same paperwork that Trump tied up administratively in order to limit the number of visas granted.
This U.S troop withdrawal was actually announced a few months ago. Sept 11 was the given deadline. The Afghans KNEW IT WAS COMING! They should have gotten out way sooner instead of acting like it was a surprise last minute thing. I feel for the Afghans, but it is their own fault for procrastinating their own exit. Also, I seem to remember that it was actually Trump who began the U.S troop withdrawal process.
